A settlement has been reached in the case of a pilot who died following a plane crash near Teterboro Airport in 2009.

The family of George Maddox, of Sinking Spring, Berks Co., will receive $7.5 million. according to the Record.   

Authorities have said Maddox, 54, was piloting a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron, which crashed after an aborted landing and burst into flames.

The plane was carrying blood and urine specimens for Quest Diagnostics, a testing firm with an office near the Bergen County airport.

Maddox's wife filed suit in 2011, arguing a co-pilot had been at the controls at the time. The co-pilot suffered severe injuries but survived. Maddox died of his injuries two weeks after the crash.

The settlement also includes college tuition payments for Maddox's daughter.
