It was a chaotic scene in downtown Reading Tuesday evening.
Shots were fired into a Family Dollar store and now police say they need your help to track down the gunman.
Police rushed to the scene of the Family Dollar in the 400 block of West Douglass Street in Reading after they received reports of shots fired.
One neighbor, who did not want to appear on camera, says it was frightening.
"A car accident or something like that. Then when I looked, there was a shooting. I did not go to the window. I was afraid."
Detectives say multiple shots were fired from outside the store into the Family Dollar, a neighboring residence and parked vehicles just before 5 p.m.
"I am surprised. I am really surprised. Never happens," said Emily Matos of Reading.
Police say they need your help in identifying two men.
Detectives say before the shooting, both males left the store and began walking east on Douglass Street as a green four door sedan, possibly a Saturn Ion, drove west on Douglass.
Detectives say as the vehicle drove past, it slowed down and both men ducked as shots were fired from the vehicle.
Police say a man in a Nike sweatshirt fired several shots back at the green sedan. The sedan sped away toward Schuylkill Ave and the males ran off on foot.
But this Family Dollar is no stranger to crime. Over the past several years there have been several armed robberies and neighbors say the crime needs to stop.
"Not safe. Right now, it is not safe. I think I have to move," said Matos.
"This is just Reading. It is sad to see that. But police can only do so much out here," said Mark Torres of Reading.
Detectives tell us there were about three to four employees inside at the time of the shooting. It is not clear if there were any customers in the store. Fortunately no one was injured.
