Squirrel to blame for power outage in Hamburg
Hundreds of residents and businesses in Hamburg, Berks Co., have a squirrel to blame for sending them into darkness.
The squirrel caused what's called a lightning arrester to blow in the 100 block of North 4th Street shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, said Karen Baxter, a Met-Ed spokeswoman, adding that the device helps protect electrical equipment.
Approximately 1,200 homes and businesses in the Hamburg area, as well as traffic lights throughout the borough, lost power as a result of the incident, said Baxter.
Electricity was restored between 11 a.m. and noon.
