A new urgent care center is open thanks in large part to the community it's going to serve.
The ribbon was cut Monday at St. Joseph Health Network's Urgent Care Center in the Strausstown area.
The center will provide primary care, urgent care, X-ray and lab services.
Officials said volunteers have been working for more than a year to get the center open at the former Strausstown Elementary School. The Strausstown Fire Company is already based in the area.
"The engine house went up with a lot of volunteers, and this whole project has been volunteer after volunteer, so if wasn't for a community like Strausstown to pull together, and this is has been a community that's done that for many many years," said Scott Sechler.
The urgent care center will employ about 17 full- and part-time staff members.
