READING, Pa. -

It was a busy holiday weekend for Pennsylvania State Police troopers on patrol in Berks, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties.

Reading-based Troop L released results Tuesday of its "aggressive enforcement activities" over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday period, which began last Wednesday and continued through Sunday.

Troopers investigated 44 accidents in which one person was killed and 12 others were injured.

While three of the accidents were alcohol-related, state police said they arrested 28 people for driving under the influence.

Troopers also cited 270 drivers for speeding and issued 81 seat belt citations, 32 seat belt warnings, five child passenger seat citations and 1,082 other citations.

AAA projected 43.4 million Americans would travel 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving weekend.
