Suspected car thief Octavio Alvarado ends up unconscious in Schuylkill River
Man falls into water after chase by police
Police in Reading say a suspected car thief is hospitalized after he tried running from officers and fell 15 feet into the Schuylkill River.
Officers tried pulling over 25-year-old Octavio Alvarado in the 300 block of Penn Street late Monday night.
They say he was driving a vehicle stolen from Easton.
Police say Alvarado took off and crashed near Reading Area Community College.
That's when officials say he tried running from officers and wound up in the river.
Police say he was unconscious when crews saved him.
Alvarado is hospitalized in guarded condition with significant internal injuries.
