Car, truck collide on I-78
BETHEL TWP., Pa. -

A pair of accidents involving tractor trailers slowed traffic on Interstate 78 in northern Berks County on Wednesday.

The latest crash, also involving a car, happened shortly before 4 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-78 at mile-marker 13.5, near the Bethel interchange, in Bethel Township.

Initial reports from the scene were that at least one person was trapped in the wreckage. A medical helicopter was requested to respond.

The scene was located about 2-1/2 miles west of an earlier accident in which a tractor trailer rolled onto its side.

Several minutes before the second accident, police had requested both eastbound lanes of 78 to be closed so that the truck involved in the first accident could be removed.

The earlier accident happened around noon when the truck rolled onto its side in a grassy area off the eastbound lanes of I-78 at mile-marker 16.1, near the Midway interchange.

The truck's driver reportedly suffered an abdominal injury and was taken to the hospital.
