SPRING TWP., Pa. -

A two-alarm fire destroyed a home in Spring Twp., Berks County, Sunday afternoon.

Flames erupted around 2:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Van Reed Road.

The residents weren't home at the time, and no one was hurt. The family's dog got out safely.

A fire official said a passerby noticed the house on fire and quickly called 911.

The fire was back off the road and it was a challenge for firefighters, who had to roll out about 4,000 feet of water hose just to reach the house.

Officials say the fire started on the first floor, and quickly spread to the attic.

The fire is under investigation
