Route 222 accident
MAIDENCREEK TWP., Pa. -

One person was seriously injured in a five-vehicle accident that closed a stretch of Route 222 in Berks County on Monday.

Police released information Tuesday about the accident, which happened between Evansville and Pleasant Hill roads in Maidencreek Township around 3:30 p.m.

The driver of a box truck traveling south on Route 222 was unable to stop for slowed traffic and hit the back of an SUV, police said.

The truck then crossed the center line and hit an oncoming car and two unoccupied cars that were parked on the lot of a local business, police said.

The driver of the oncoming car that was hit was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

No one else was hospitalized, although officials initially said Monday that two people were transported to the hospital.
