Vehicle fire on West Shore Bypass
EXETER TWP., Pa. -

Traffic on the West Shore Bypass in Berks County was brought to a standstill for the second straight day.

A vehicle burst into flames on the westbound shoulder of the highway in Exeter Township, a mile before the Interstate 176 interchange, shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials stopped traffic in both directions as a thick plume of black smoke billowed over the bypass.

Firefighters made quick work of the blaze, allowing for all lanes of the bypass to be reopened .

There were no reports of injuries.

The westbound lanes were closed for about an hour Monday because of an accident prior to the Lancaster Avenue interchange in Reading. Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane. No one was seriously injured.
