Rescue crews had to free a person trapped beneath the rubble of a cinder block wall in Reading.

The call came in shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Mineral Spring Road.

Several witnesses, including at least one passerby, rushed to the victim's aid until emergency crews could arrive on the scene.

The crews then worked about a half-hour, using air bags to lift the rubble and free the victim, who was rushed to Reading Hospital.

Officials on the scene said the victim's injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The homeowner identified the victim as Ed Lesher, a contractor hired to perform work at the home.

The homeowner says Lesher suffered a broken leg and bruising throughout his body.

"Well, it's the Lord's doing that the fellow only has a broken leg as far as we know. Because the bricks could have killed him," said Vanita Sels, homeowner.

He was admitted to The Reading Hospital, where officials say he is in stable condition and expected to be okay.
