Young campers make 'thank you' cards for troops overseas
Some summer campers in Spring Twp., Berks Co., are thinking about our nation and our troops as Independence Day approaches.
Campers with the BodyZone's "Summer Adventure Camp" spent Tuesday morning making cards to send to U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
The mother of two of the campers is in the military. She's home, but the cards will be sent to members of her unit who are overseas.
The project teaches some valuable lessons, camp organizers said.
"I think it's really important for all of us, not just the kids, but for all of us to realize that the reason we're free and independent is because, and can do all the things, is because of the soldiers that are out there everyday," said Donna Lascoskie, Body Zone. "I also think it's important to teach kids about gratitude whenever you can."
The cards say "thank you" and are decorated with fun, summer scenes.
