Man charged for allegedly leaving kids home before fire

READING, Pa. -

The man police said left two young kids home alone when their apartment caught fire is behind bars.

Shawn Howard was charged Friday with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of children.

Howard left a 4-year-old girl and a baby alone in their North 6th Street apartment Thursday with rice and oil cooking on the stove. The food caught fire and the apartment filled with smoke.

Fortunately, two good Samaritans heard screaming and came to the kids' rescue.
