Met-Ed is saying thanks to the Reading Fire Department for its help during Superstorm Sandy.
Met-Ed donated $2,500 to the department Thursday morning.
The power company couldn't reach some of its equipment to make repairs following the storm in October, so the RFD's scuba team stepped in with its amphibious vehicle.
"Because the Schuylkill River was so swollen, the current was so swift, there was no safe way for us to get our crew on the island. We even tried a helicopter," said Karen Baxter, a Met-Ed spokeswoman.
The storm knocked out power to thousands of Met-Ed customers in Berks County. Some people were in the dark for days.
