More details on alleged pot house bust
A Maidencreek Township couple is behind bars after allegedly running a marijuana grow house. Police revealed more details about the bust.
Police said they discovered 17 pot plants and packaging materials in the home when they tried to access the electrical panel because of a house fire.
Homeowners James and Angela Keller of 234 Cornerstone Drive are facing multiple charges of manufacturing and possessing a controlled substance. Tuesday their neighbors were shocked to see police parked outside their home and bring out so much evidence.
"There were filters, pumps, big lights, it just didn't look like if they were growing it for themselves it would have been that much stuff involved with the whole thing," said Marion Korner.
According to court documents, a house fire was reported by a child living in the home. When police arrived, they said Angela Keller showed the location of the fire was in the basement under the stairwell. When they asked for access to the electrical panel to shut off power, she told them it was locked behind a door with guns and she didn't have the key. Police said she asked everyone to leave and said things were under control. But police said the smoke was becoming toxic. Angela was taken into custody. And with the help of fire crews police forced entry into the electrical panel room. Inside, they said they found a marijuana grow operation. When James Keller arrived home he was also taken into custody.
"Good neighbors, quite neighbors, very surprised," said Korner on Tuesday.
Police reported finding 17 marijuana plants in pots, fertilizer, soil, packaging materials, lamps, four marijuana pipes and a scale.
At one point, police said before they discovered the marijuana grow room Angela Keller said she wanted to tell them something, but her daughter put her hand over her mother's mouth and yelled, "Don't." Neighbors said the other child in the home is away at camp.
