Murder victim's sister reacts to arrests
Jennifer Velez-Negron's body found burning in Allentown in Dec
One Reading woman says her sister did not deserve to be tortured and then murdered.
Tuesday, authorities said the culprits were two brothers, Maurice Adrian Wilkins and Michael Allen Wilkins, both from Ruscombmanor Twp., Berks Co.
Both brothers were charged in connection with kidnapping Jennifer Velez-Negron, 26, of Reading, and then setting her body on fire.
Officials say Velez-Negron's burned body was later found near Allentown in Salisbury Township.
"I'm happy. I'm happy, because I didn't want this to stay like that, you know, because somebody had to pay for it," said Yesenia Velez, sister of the victim.
Police allege that Jennifer Velez-Negron's death was motivated by a bad drug deal that she allegedly arranged.
Investigators say Jennifer had Rafael Alequin of Cumru Twp., Berks Co., and Dario McLemore of Palmer Twp., Northampton Co., sell fake cocaine to Michael Wilkins in exchange for $700.
Police say the Wilkins brothers shot both Alequin and McLemore in the 1100 block of Reading on Dec. 4.
Jennifer Velez-Negron, who witnessed the crime, was kidnapped, later tortured and killed, detectives said.
Yesenia says she finds it hard to believe that her sister would ever be involved in selling drugs.
"To set up a deal like that, with money and drugs, whatever, I don't think so, no," said Yesenia.
The Wilkins brothers are each facing murder charges for the deaths of Rafael Alequin, Dario McLemore and Jennifer Velez-Negron.
Jennifer Velez-Negron leaves behind three children.
