Natural gas pipeline expansion discussed
It was a packed house Tuesday night to talk about the possible expansion of natural gas pipelines in Berks County.
Experts were on hand at the Fire Training Center in Reading.
The workshop focused on the pipeline construction process and its possible impacts.
It also touched on what rights property owners have and other legal considerations.
Some in attendance said they're worried about what gas lines mean for the people whose property they run through.
"They're going to transport gas or oil or whatever they're transporting but they're doing it at the expense of individual property owners which may not get the fair value of their land," said Union Township Supervisor Don Basile.
The meeting is partly in response to the proposed Commonwealth Pipeline which could eventually carry natural gas through Berks and Chester counties.
Supporters say the line will offer a greater supply of natural gas to areas that are not currently served.
