The man accused of kidnapping and raping three girls in his Cleveland, Ohio home has roots in Reading.
But some residents say they won't be bragging about that information any time soon.
According to city records, Ariel Castro lived in the 400 block of N. 2nd Street in Reading in the 70s.
Some in Castro's old Reading neighborhood say associating Castro with their area is the last thing they need.
"It makes it even worse," said Jose Fontanez. "It makes it look like we're the bad people on the block now."
Friday, officials confirmed that D.N.A. results revealed that Ariel Castro is the father of a 6-year-old girl whose mother is Amanda Berry, one of the kidnapping victims.
As the world races to learn all it can about Ariel Castro, inevitably his childhood in Reading will be mentioned, including his Reading neighborhood on N. 2nd Street.
Neighbors says the area already has its problems with drugs and violence, but now being associated with Ariel Castro is, to some, just another setback.
"Now it's going to make it seem like this block, like nobody can walk by, nobody can play outside, nobody can do anything," Fontanez said.
"They're going to think bad of us here in Pennsylvania," said Migdalia in Spanish.
