DOUGLASS TWP., Pa. -

A 63-year-old woman was killed Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a busy highway in Douglass Township.

It happened at about 5:30 on Route 562.

Officials haven't released the woman's identity but they did say she lived about a quarter-mile away from the accident scene.

Officials have been concerned about people walking on this road.

"Route 562 which is Reading Avenue is a very busy roadway and as a result we usually ask people to deter their activities to walking on this roadway," said Douglass Township Police Department Chief David Franke.

Nobody else was injured.

The road was closed for a little more than three hours.

The accident is under investigation.
