Police ID man shot, killed outside home; suspect in custody
A man is in custody in connection with the deadly shooting of another man early Friday morning, state police said.
Timothy Reber was shot shortly before 4 a.m. outside his girlfriend's home at 37 Beckers Rd. in Alsace Twp., Berks County, said state police. Reber, 31, of Cactus Lane in Alsace Twp., died at the scene.
The preliminary investigation soon led troopers to respond to a home in the 300 block of East 3rd Street in Boyertown, said state police.
A man who lives there, Robert Pfanders, was led away in handcuffs and transported to the state police barracks in Reading for questioning by investigators, officials said.
Police said they later identified Pfanders, 25, as a suspect in Reber's killing. He is being charged with criminal homicide and first degree murder, police said.
Investigators said Reber, his girlfriend, Pfanders and a friend of his returned to the girlfriend's home on Beckers Road after a night of drinking.
Pfanders confronted Reber about an argument Reber had with his girlfriend earlier in the evening, and at some point, Pfanders pulled out a .40 caliber handgun and shot Reber, said state police, who noted that the gun has not yet been recovered.
Pfanders and his friend then fled the scene and returned to their homes, police said.
Reber's friends have set up a website to help raise money for his funeral expenses so that his younger sister, Brittany, isn't burdened with the cost.
"We are all still mourning the death of his mother just six months earlier," said Jesse Anthony. "No child should pay to bury their mother and brother."
The friends have also established a Facebook page in Reber's memory.
