Police: Man escapes correctional facility by stealing car

WERNERSVILLE, Pa. -

Police are on the lookout for a man they said fled from a correctional facility in a stolen car.

Jesus Manuel Gonzalez was in the Wernersville Correctional Facility in South Heidelberg Twp., Berks Co., around 10 p.m. Monday for processing on a probation violation.

"He asked to use the bathroom. When he came out of the bathroom, he took off running," said Tpr. David Beohm, Pa. State Police.

Gonzalez, 29, fled the building, stole a car in the parking lot and drove away, police said.

The car is a 1993 red Chevrolet Geo Metro with Pa. license plate HKG-1734. .He was last seen traveling west on Main Street in South Heidelberg Township.

Gonzalez is an Hispanic man, 6 feet, 1 inch tall with black hair, police said. He weighs approximately 237 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black long-sleeved shirt and white sneakers.

Anyone with knowledge of Gonzalez's whereabouts is asked to call the state police in Reading at 610-378-4011 or Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
