Police: Prison inmate escapes from work program in cemetery

READING, Pa. -

Police are on the lookout for a prison imate who fled from a work release program late Friday morning.

Tony Smith, an inmate at the Berks County Jail, was on a supervised detail at the Charles Evans Cemetery on North 5th St. in Reading, when he ran off, said state police, who added that he may have gotten into a silver vehicle.

Smith, 32, is serving a sentence for a criminal trespass conviction.

He's described as a black man standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He has a medium build, short black hair, brown eyes and a goatee.

Police said he uses at least two aliases -- Deion Walker and Devon Black.

At the time of his escape, Smith was wearing a jacket with "BCJ" on the back, a bright orange/yellow hat, a burgundy button-down dress shirt, jeans and white and black sneakers, police said. He also has a colostomy bag.

A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for Smith's capture.
