EXETER TWP., Pa. -

Reading firefighters took to the shelves of Target in Exeter Township Wednesday evening on the hunt for toys. A lot of toys.

"We can usually spend money very quickly. It does not take very long," said Reading firefighter Jason Batz.

In fact, it only took about 15 minutes for them to pick out hundreds of gifts for needy children.

"The guys enjoy it and it is a nice time for everyone to get together and kind of do a good deed," said Batz.

The Reading fire department bought $2,800 in toys and they are hoping to help several families this holiday season.

"We serve here in the city and we see poverty and people at their worst and we see how it affects people and none of us wants to see a child go without anything for the holiday season," said Batz.

The fire department is able to buy the gifts through selling toy drive t-shirts to the community and collecting donations from local businesses.

All of the toys this year will be donated to the Salvation Army for them to distribute to families in need.
