Restaurant owners relive terror of robbery
Restaurant owners relive robbery
A sigh of relief is what many are breathing at the Cross Roads Family Restaurant in Muhlenberg Township.
Around 10 Monday night, police said at least three masked men carrying guns stormed into the business on Rt. 61.
After ordering roughly 30 customers to the floor, the robbers asked for the manager.
"They took me to the back and they asked me to get the money" said George Asimakopoulos, manager.
Asimakopoulos said the robbers entered the restaurant through a back door, which was not always locked.
"It surprised everybody, and we just did everything they asked and cooperated," said Asimakopoulos.
Just after the robbers left, officials said an elderly man collapsed.
"As soon as I heard them say, 'he collapsed, call 911,' I ran out right away," said Asimakopoulos, "and said there's an elderly man that fell, get an ambulance!"
Asimakopoulos said his family purchased Cross Roads Family Restaurant last year around Thanksgiving, and all his family members and employees put in long, back-breaking hours. He said this is why it upsets him that someone would have the nerve to take away their hard-earned money.
"It's very frustrating that somebody comes and does this," said Asimakopoulos. "There's a certain sense that they violated you in a way."
Muhlenberg Township Police said they are looking for at least three Black or Hispanic men, but they said they couldn't release much more information at the moment.
Asimakopoulos said new security measures are already being implemented at the restaurant.
