The holiday shopping frenzy was in full swing earlier than ever at some retail stores across our region.
It was all-day shopping at Kmart in Cumru Twp., Berks Co.
Doors opened at 6 a.m., and the store plans to stay open for 41 straight hours.
About 200 people were waiting in line before the doors opened, store officials said.
"The lines were here for door-busters such as tables, such as televisions. Games were very popular," said Chuck Salvitti, Kmart's general store manager.
Officials said outstanding sales from last year's Black Friday led them to go for the 6:00 start time this year on Thanksgiving.
"The business was just more than we expected, and it seems to be the trend now," Salvitti said.
The move doesn't come without some controversy, but it was hard to find any shoppers complaining.
"I feel bad for the people that are having to work while there here, but it's convenient for me to be able to come out and be able to pop in whenever," said Virginia Dodge, of Reading.
VF Outlets in Wyomissing opened at 6 p.m. Kohl's, Target and Best Buy are set to open at 8 p.m.
