READING, Pa. -

Met-Ed has restored electricity to thousands of Met-Ed customers who lost power as the result of a downed line.

The line fell Tuesday morning in the West Reading area, causing approximately 6,000 of Met-Ed's 143,672 customers in Berks County to lose electricity, according to a spokesman for the utility.

Crews worked throughout the morning to restore power, bringing everyone back online by 12:30 p.m.

One of the biggest customers to lose electricity was Northwest Middle School which relied on a generator to power emergency lights. Windows also provided plenty of light in the classrooms, according to employees with the Reading School District.

Many traffic lights in the northwest Reading area were also without power during the outage. Temporary stops signs were put in place to help ease traffic flow.
