Toppled truck causes traffic troubles on Route 422 in Amity
Both eastbound lanes of highway closed for 5-1/2 hours Tuesday morning
An accident involving a toppled truck has been causing traffic troubles on Route 422 in eastern Berks County.
The accident was reported at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on Route 422 East, at Route 662, in Amity Township, just before the entrance to the Pottstown Bypass.
A dump truck hauling a load of ground-up macadam veered out of control around a curve, rolled onto its side and sheared a utility pole, officials said.
The truck's driver was not injured.
The eastbound lanes of 422 were closed until about 7 a.m. while crews removed the truck and the macadam it spilled, said police.
One lane of the highway remained closed until approximately 3 p.m. while Met-Ed crews replace the damaged pole, police said.
