MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

A man is in custody in connection with a Berks Co. bank robbery, and according to officials, they used a tracking device to find him.

The holdup happened around 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the M&T Bank at 3435 Pottsville Pike in Muhlenberg Township.

Police said the man, 48-year-old Brent Lauer of Orwigsburg, couldn't get far because in addition to money, he also got away with a tracking device.

Lauer was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Greenwich Street and Centre Avenue in Reading.

"There's reports that he handed the teller a note and she turned over an undetermined amount of money and he left the bank," said Officer James Waits of the Muhlenberg Township Police Department. "There was a description that was broadcasted with coordination with Reading city (police). We were able to stop the subject."

Officials would not give specifics but they said a tracking device worked very well in this case.

Police said Lauer was held for questioning and the bank tellers were able to indicate he was the man who handed them a note just an hour before.

"They were able to identify him as well as video from the bank," said Waits.

Lauer has been charged with robbery and related charges.
