READING, Pa. -

Dozens of volunteers braved the cold Wendnesday to spread some holiday cheer to those in need.

The third annual Cups of Compassion was held at 5th and Penn streets in downtown Reading.

Forty to 50 volunteers from businesses around the city served up food and handed out blankets to those in need.

"It's really about giving and trying to help people that are struggling in the city to feel a little bit more positive, to feel some hope around the holidays," said Laura Cooper.

Last year, volunteers said more than 1,000 people came out for the event. They said  they served at least that many this year.
