CUMRU TWP., Pa. -

A chain-reaction crash slowed traffic during Wednesday morning's rush hour on Route 422 in Berks County.

The five-vehicle accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the West Shore Bypass at the Interstate 176/Morgantown Expressway interchange in Cumru Township.

No one was injured, according to police.

The crash closed the highway's right lane of travel, backing up traffic beyond the Neversink Road on-ramp in Exeter Township.

The backlog prompted some bypass travelers to turn around and drive the wrong way up the ramp.

The highway reopened shortly before 11 a.m.
