RICHMOND TWP., Pa. -

A Berks County-based battery maker has named a new CEO following the tragic death of its former leader.

East Penn Manufacturing in Richmond Township has named Daniel Langdon as its new CEO.

Langdon joined East Penn, one of Berks County's largest employers, as controller in
1986. He was then promoted to vice president of finance and chief financial officer. He has served as president since 1994.

Christopher Pruitt, who started with the company in 1994, will assume Langdon's role as president, overseeing automotive sales and administrative areas, including finance.

The former CEO, Sally Miksiewicz, was hit by a truck and killed last month in Pike Township.

The driver who allegedly hit her has been charged with homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence.

Daniel Breidegam, the company's treasurer and vice president of metals and commodities management, will serve as chairman.
