CAERNARVON TWP., Pa. -

Smoke spewed high in the sky from an industrial fire that rose to three alarms before firefighters could bring it under control.

The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. Monday inside Timet, a company that recycles and processes titanium, on Hemlock Road in Caernarvon Twp., Berks Co.

A company employee who took photos of the fire said it struck the main building of the manufacturing plant, which he described as a large, one-floor industrial building.

The fire rose to three alarms, bringing to the scene firefighters from throughout Berks, Chester and Lancaster counties.

Crews worked about three hours to get control of the fire. The nature of the work done at the plant prevented firefighters from using water to extinguish the flames, so specialized trucks had to bring in foam to fight the fire.

Many onlookers gathered at the nearby Twin Valley High School, which sits high above the valley, for a firsthand view of the fire.

There were no reports of injuries.

Investigators have not yet determined what sparked the fire. A state police fire marshal is on the case.
