MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

Police are calling on the public to find a man who chased a 12-year-old girl from a Berks County playground.

The incident happened Monday just before 9 p.m. police say, near Kutztown Road and Euclid Street in Muhlenberg Township.

"The information that we have was that it was a black male, approximately 40 years old, and the victim described him as speaking with what she described as an African accent," said Detective Francis Hill, Muhlenberg Township police department.

Police say the man then chased the girl down Kutztown Road south until they reached the area of Frush Valley Road.

Neighbors in the area were outraged.

"This is a quiet neighborhood," said Brian Ricchiuti, neighbor. "That really shocks me that that happened."

Police say the victim had been in the park with some friends, but when her friends had gone home, she was left alone, waiting for someone to pick her up.

"We're hoping someone in the area saw something last night, or maybe they recognized the individual," said Hill.

And while police say the little girl is safe and sound with family, residents say they will be looking over their shoulders until this man is off the streets.

"Parents, just got to protect your kids," said Ricchiuti.

If you have any information, you're urged to call Muhlenberg police immediately, at (610) 929-5454.
