The Reading Public Library is welcoming the start of autumn and the return of cooler weather.

The library announced Tuesday that it will reopen its northeast branch at North 11th and Pike streets next Monday, September 26, and resume its normal operating hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The branch has been closed because of the summer's excessive heat and the building's lack of air conditioning.

The RPL's southeast branch has been helping to offset the lost hours by opening two additional days each week.

The northeast branch has been plagued by cooling problems since last summer, when a power outage damaged its air conditioning unit.
