READING, Pa. -

The Humane Society of Berks County is calling on animal lovers to open their doors to homeless cats.

It's all part of a two-for-one adoption special.

"Two's always better than one, isn't it? They make great companionship for each other," said Lorraine Storms, administrative director.

The month-long event is actually titled the Great Catsby, inspired by the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby.

Gatsby is the theme of the Humane Society's art auction this year.

The art captures the days of the roaring twenties, and organizers hope you'll allow a cat, or two, to roar right into your home.

"And especially when you have younger cats, like kittens, who are much more active and prone to be destructive in certain circumstances, to have a playmate actually really helps with that," Storms said.

The agency has seen an influx of homeless cats lately, and hopes the two-for-one adoption special will solve that problem.

The two-for-one adoption event is the first of its kind in the area, organizers said.

"And even if you're not getting two cats of the same litter, our staff can help you introduce them well," Storms said.
