ROBESON TWP., Pa. -

Rescue crews in Berks County were pressed into action to free the driver of a car that went off a highway and landed on its roof at the bottom of a 100-foot embankment.

The accident was reported around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 176, near the Green Hills exit, in Robeson Township.

The driver, according to police, was traveling north on I-176 when he lost control, traveled into the southbound lanes and went over the guardrail.

Crews managed to free the driver from the upside-down car and carefully carry him up the embankment for transport to Reading Hospital, but officials on the scene have not been able to provide an extent of the victim's injuries.

I-176 South remained closed to traffic until shortly after 4 p.m.
