MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

Work to repair a busy stretch of Route 61 in Berks County is now complete.

The highway, near the Wawa at Reading Crest Avenue in Muhlenberg Township, reopened to traffic around 3 p.m. Monday.

The road had been closed since last Tuesday when a 36-inch main, owned by the Reading Area Water Authority, broke.

The repairs forced crews to tear apart the road's surface, making it necessary for the thousands of motorists who travel the highway each day to find an alternative route.

The only impact on RAWA customers was a reduction in water pressure early Tuesday morning, officials said.
