Long lines and lists. The crowds were out Wednesday getting last minute groceries before the holiday.
"I've just bought my 14-pound turkey and my green beans," said Bonnie Cohen. "I'm trying to get some rolls because that's what my grandson's like."
The Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market saw a lot of foot traffic the day before Turkey Day.
"I like the way they do turkeys. They clean them up well. They taste good," explained Betty McElroy.
Vendors had special hours this week, opening on Tuesday and Wednesday. But workers at Mr. Bill's Poultry have been putting in long hours the last seven days.
"We go through a tractor trailer load of turkeys here," said Bill Steele. "So there's a lot of juggling and sorting and just to make things great for our customers."
Every year about 1,000 birds fly out the door. Mr. Bill's Poultry is one of only two stands at the Farmers Market that sells turkeys, and we're told both have loyal followings. Mr. BIll's even takes special orders.
"I've had turkeys up to 35 pounds, most people don't even have a place to store a turkey like that for a day let alone from Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday so it just makes it a lot better," added Steele.
Another popular stop is The Amish Village Bake Shop. Workers there know exactly what tasty treats shoppers are coming for.
"Obviously pumpkin pie, apple pie," smiled owner Reuben Fisher. "We sell a lot of dinner rolls."
He says they go through about 500 pumpkin pies and nearly 200 apple pies every year around Thanksgiving.
"It's a benefit to the customer and to us to be here Tuesday and Wednesday."
