A man was arrested after quarrels with his girlfriend over bedbugs and an envelope containing a check escalated into a physical fight, officials said.
Jonathan P. Quanco was picked up in the 500 block of Jischke Street in Bethlehem at 3 a.m. Thursday, about three miles from his home at 801 Bridge St., where he assaulted his girlfriend, Aubrey Evans, 14 hours earlier, officials said.
Quanco and Evans were fighting over an envelope with a check when Quanco slammed Evans' head into a wall twice, grabbed her by the throat and punched her several times on the forehead, before Evans was able to get out of the house and call police, officials said.
Earlier, Evans had locked Quanco out of the home after he had thrown a lamp while they were arguing over bedbugs, but he got back inside by kicking in the door, officials said.
Evans was treated at a hospital for head and neck pain, officials said.
Quanco, 29, was arraigned on assault and harassment charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 5.
