Bethlehem police said Friday they've arrested a 14-year-old in connection with a "clown threat" made on social media toward Freedom and Liberty high schools.

Authorities charged the teen with terroristic threats after posting threats of violence directed at the two high schools from the Facebook account "Danny Sosa." Bethlehem detectives determined the teen's identity and location, serving a search warrant on the home Thursday night.

The teen was referred to Northampton County Juvenile Probation.

Authorities determined there were no credible threats toward Liberty or Freedom and that no other suspects were involved. The threat was made on Monday.

Bethlehem Police Chief Mark DiLuzio thanked Bethlehem Area School District officials for their cooperation in the investigation.

"The Bethlehem Police Department and Bethlehem Area School District will continue to investigate all messages posted on social media that contain hateful or threatening vocabulary towards any school," DiLuzio said in a statement. "Individuals found to be responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

The charges came in the midst of a wave of nationwide clown threats. The Berks County District Attorney said earlier this week that such threats could be considered terroristic threats.
