Bethlehem's outgoing mayor unveils last budget proposal
Bethlehem City Council members are getting their first look at their mayor's last spending plan.
The 2014 city budget was officially unveiled Friday. It's the last budget prepared by outgoing Mayor John Callahan.
Callahan said the $71 million spending plan holds the line on taxes and calls for the hiring of five new police officers.
The budget does call for a 15 percent increase in both water and sewer rates for users in the city. The revenue will go toward upgrades and improvements to the 60-year-old waste water treatment plant.
