BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A Bethlehem student was honored Thursday for overcoming obstacles to become a reading all-star.

Jesus Pantoja received a check and plaque Thrsuday at Marvine Elementary School.

He was just one of ten students picked from across the country for this award, from Scholastic publishing company.

The fifth grader is originally from Puerto Rico, and as a native Spanish-speaker, had trouble reading and writing in English.

Here's how he told us he overcame that: "By working hard and trying to do my best and not fool around and listening to the teachers too."

Along with his prize money and award, Pantoja received the Harry Potter books, which he says he'll tackle this summer.
