Copper thieves cause additional damage

HANOVER TWP., Pa. -

Authorities in Lehigh County are looking for at least one person who they say recently broke into a building to steal copper piping  and caused extensive damage in the process.
Police say a door and air conditioners were pushed in at the Weaversville Intensive Treatment Unit at 6710 of Weaversville Road in Hanover Township.
They said security cameras were ripped off the walls, and the thieves used a sawzall and bolt cutters to remove copper piping within the building.

While removing the piping, active water mains were broken, allowing water all over the facility. The water caused extensive damage.

A piece of metal was found in a door, showing the thieves tried to get to the second floor of the facility.

East Allen Fire Department responded to the scene and turned off the water.

Police said the thieves also stole copper rain gutters on the outside of the building, about 20 feet off the ground.

Police said there is about $20,000 worth of damage.
