Double homicide in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

The killings of two people over the weekend may have been sparked by a dispute over an affair, and possibly drugs and money, according to court documents released Sunday night.

The shooting left a couple dead while their 4-year-old daughter and a friend slept inside their home at South Hall and Walnut streets.

"It's very hard, and so close to home," said Carol Lambert, whose daughter was staying inside the house.

The killings happened early Saturday morning outside the couple's home. Adrian Ramirez and her boyfriend, Steven Santiago, were killed.  The couple moved to Allentown a year ago and hoped to start a construction business.

Lambert's daughter recalled what happened.

"Someone knocked on the door," she said.  "They went outside, then the gun shoot [sic] Steven first, then shoot her."

Tykweis Wade, 16, and John Jermaine Boyd, 27, have been charged with criminal homicide.

Boyd, known to neighbors as "J," lives in an apartment just down the street.

According to an arrest affidavit, Boyd was having an affair that the victims may have known about.  An argument erupted among Boyd, his wife, and the victims, police said.  During that fight, police said Boyd and Wade killed the couple with a sawed-off shotgun and a revolver.

Authorities recovered both guns, along with a getaway car with blood and other evidence inside.

One witness also said Boyd and victim Steven Santiago had previously fought over money and drugs.

"There's a great deal of follow-up by the investigators, which they are conducting," said Asst. Chief Joe Hanna, Allentown Police Department.

This isn't Boyd's first run-in with cops.  He spent a year in a prison in New Jersey on weapons possession charges.

Wade, the teenage suspect, was arrested before, but he does not have a violent criminal past.

Police would not comment on how the two suspects knew each other, but neighbors said the two were regularly seen together.

Now, Cathy Lambert has to explain a tragedy to her daughter that she can't yet explain to herself.

"Never thought something like this would happen," she said.  "Especially to them."

Both suspects were committed to the Lehigh County Prison without bail.  Their preliminary hearing is set for December 23.
