A landfill in Northampton County has notched a legal victory in a long-running battle to expand.
A panel of Commonwealth Court judges has upheld a lower court's ruling that allows the Chrin Brothers Landfill to move forward with expansion plans in Williams Township.
The landfill released the following statement in response to the ruling:
"We are pleased with the decisions of the Commonwealth Court and believe the opinions speak for themselves and deserve to be read in their entirety by all interested parties. Our legal positions have now been affirmed by both the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas and the Commonwealth Court, and we will continue to move forward providing efficient and high quality environmental services to Williams Township and the surrounding communities."
Some residents had sued to stop the move.
One of the lead plaintiffs in the case, Michael Muretta, was found dead in his home in August. His death was ruled suspicious, but no arrests have been made.
