ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A special and solemn event remembered the victims of violence Thursday.

The Crime Victims Council of Lehigh Valley hosted a vigil in Allentown.

Families of victims got a chance to talk about how their lives have been affected by crime.

A special quilt was on display honoring the victims.

Organizers say the events helps families with the healing process.

"It's important because it gives victims a chance to speak. So it's important for them to share their personal stories. And to let them know we don't forget them," said Suzanne Beck, executive director of the Crime Victims Council.

Thursday's event is part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
