A community is closer together after honoring those who have been affected by crimes in the Lehigh Valley.

The Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley held a candlelight vigil in Allentown Thursday evening.

A number of victims and survivors from crimes around the region banned together to share their stories and help others get through their experiences.

During the vigil, victims spoke candidly about how their lives have been forever changed.

"This vigil is just for them, to give victims voices and for us to hear from them," said Tara Skudera.

Bagpipes were played and peace doves were released to signify the participants' hopes for a world without violence.
