DA: Man arrested, to be charged in teen's death
A teenager has been arrested and is expected to face charges for murder in the death of another teen, police said.
Investigators in Allentown say it began when Daniel Valez, 19, was murdered right in front of his own house and his own family.
Manuel Figueroa, 18, is who police labeled as the killer. He is expected to be formally charged later Monday night, police said.
"The police -- they blocked the whole area," said Bill Bosques, the deli's owner. "And they were here until about 2:00 in the morning, investigating the whole thing."
Deli owner Bill Bosques was working here just after 9:00 Sunday night and his security cameras caught the whole incident on tape.
The video shows Velez pulling up in his car in front of his house. Ten seconds later he drove away, was shot in the head, careened across 7th Street and into a white sedan parked right next to a deli.
"It sounded like just a car accident, and then we heard people start screaming and then we came running outside," said neighbor Amber Dollak.
Neighbors reported hearing an argument on the street before the shooting, they believe it was a domestic dispute.
After the shooting, Bosques' security video shows a white car pull up to 7th and Gordon.
Two men jump inside and race down Gordon Street.
"Things happen. Bad people in the neighborhood; nothing wrong with the neighborhood," said Bosques.
This is a stretch of 7th Street the city has been trying to revitalize with new businesses but some who live here say it's far from safe.
"I'm afraid for my kids because I have to walk my daughter to school every day, so I never know what could happen when," said Dollak.
Bill Bosques says a camera installed by this traffic light also captured what happened.
An autopsy for Valez has been scheduled for Wednesday but Coroner Scott Grim has attributed the cause of death to a gunshot wound to the head. He ruled the death a homicide.
Figueroa was arrested Monday morning in the 800 block of Tilghman Street. He will face criminal homicide charges, police said.
