Jim Martin - Interview

Despite facing his first political challenger in 12 years, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin will not be leaving the courthouse anytime soon.

Martin led Ed Koren with 65 percent of the vote.

Martin touts a 97% convinction rate for his time in office but his opponent, Ed Koren said it wasn't good enough.

"I've been doing this job for 14 years; I think, doing it well.  My record and the record of this office indicates that," said Martin.

Koren, a former Secret Service agent, Allentown police officer, and state police lieutenant, said his experience as a cop gives him an edge on getting ahead of the Valley's growing gang problem.  Koren also wanted to create veteran courts.

"The goal always of the system is to keep people, as many people, away from prison as possible, because most people don't come out of prison any better than they went in, and a lot of times they come out worse," said Koren.

Martin said he wants to establish a regional crime fighting center to help modernize the local police departments.

He also said he wants to do more outreach programs in schools to help prevent young people from getting involved in gang activity.
