A longtime Northampton County district judge has died.

Easton District Judge Gay Elwell died Monday at her home, according to her office.

Elwell had been a judge for some 16 years.

She was 54 years old.

A cause of death has not been determined.

This has been a rough year for the Elwell family.

Elwell's brother, Jonathan, went missing from Berks County in April and turned up dead in Iowa.
